You will never know how I envy you, Morpheus

For you are the only being that can understand what this beautiful sleeper thinks of

As she lays on that white sea, eyes shut to the world.

What I wouldn't give to be at peace with her in her realm of dreams

To see her smile oft hidden in her waking life

Under her armour as impenetrable as it is invisible.

Answer me, O beautiful dreamer

Is the world so cruel that you cannot confide in me

The secrets of your timorous heart?

Perhaps one day, I will be worthy of your consideration

And you will know me for real

Until then, your somnolent smile will suffice.

Hello everyone,

As promised, here is the English translation of my first poem written in French. The original poem was a piece inspired by an illustration that I saw in one of my groups :iconfrenchconnexion:

I was equally inspired by these photographs of my friend and watcher :iconkathrynodriscoll:

A note on translation:

The word sleeper and dreamer in the poem is a translation of dormeuse and songeuse which specifically denote a female (as opposed to the masculine dormeur and songeur).

I understand that the majority of my watchers do not speak French, at least not fluently, so I sincerely hope my translation does not fall short.

Beautiful  I had to reread it 4 times before I could stop to comment. I love the imagery, and the invocation of Morpheus is a touch of genius, it gives the poem a feel of the classical.

Honestly speaking, this poem... I read it about two days back and I fell in love with it...

And now, reading it again... I'm in awe of it... I'm sorry I don't have that many things to say but... Its a very beautiful poem... I love that... ambience in this poem... that... vicarious ambience in it... I love it... It feels so... strong...

It reminds me strongly of a poem one of my friends wrote some time back... and its a beautiful concept... His may have been different... but I felt it was like this as well...

 trez bien, mon ami! bravo!
